CREEC SIGNS CLEAN COOKING MOU WITH THE UGANDA NATIONAL ALLAINCE FOR CLEAN COOKING (UNACC)

On the 14th of June 2019, the Uganda National Alliance on Clean Cooking (UNACC) and the Center for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to the distribution of Clean Cook stoves and services in the different Dioceses as will be performed by Uganda National Alliance on Clean Cooking IN Uganda. The MoU will enable the two partners to strengthen the institutional capacities of stakeholders in Environmental conservation through the clean cooking sector by provision of targeted and affordable environmentally friendly services and products to communities.

Some of the activities to be carried out under this partnership include;
• Joint resource mobilization synergies
• Awareness and sensitization activities on Clean Energy
• Joint research , activity implementation, progress monitoring and evaluation
• Joint implementation of policy related activities around clean cooking technology

CREEC will also use the centre’s Regional Testing and Knowledge Centre that is recognized under the UNBS laboratory recognition scheme in accordance with the ISO 17025 testing protocol to test UNACC members’ technologies for efficiency. The centre will also use her expertise to train UNACC members on Energy thematic areas of CREEC mandate and these will join the community of 600 trained professionals as achieved by the centre in the last 5years.

 CREEC will also use her experience in testing over 150 renewable energy models to provide advisory services on appropriate technology, statistics and innovations to UNACC members to grow their businesses as well as to inform actions for clean cooking sector improvement. This will be achieved by working closely with UNACC on areas of UNACC’s mandate beyond testing members products for standards. UNACC is an umbrella organization that has for the last 6years supported and steered efforts towards reduction of demand on biomass energy resources, and provides a joint coordination framework for the private and public actors in the Ugandan clean cooking sector. CREEC’s partnership with an organisation like UNACC is also one of the many steps taken by the centre to achieve her vision which is “to be the leading knowledge centre of excellence in renewable energy for an East-Africa where access to modern types of energy is a reality for everybody”
