1ST ENERGY MANAGEMENT AWARDS HELD IN UGANDA

In an effort to boost the adoption of energy efficiency best practices among consumers in Uganda, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development in partnership with the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA), GIZ-PREEEP and the SUNREF programme organized the energy management awards 2018. The awards aim at recognizing and rewarding consumers that have embraced energy efficiency through the application of modern energy management principles and practices, and in the process made significant energy cost reductions. The awarding gala took place on Friday 31st of October at Pearl of Africa Hotel in Kampala and CREEC was one of the companies that witnessed the awarding ceremony.

In the minister’s speech which was delivered by a representative, it was noted that the event is in line with one of the priorities of the Energy Ministry which focuses on efficient utilization of energy and power loss reduction. It is also a step towards boosting the national efforts towards achieving one of the targets under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 of doubling the level of energy efficiency by 2030.

Energy audit in progress

CREEC provides training, research and consultancy services to industrial companies and institutions on the optimum utilization of energy to minimize costs and increase profits. In collaboration with Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), CREEC conducted Energy Verifications that led to savings of 10.9 MVA due to the application of the recommendations by CREEC at the various facilities. Some of the biggest verified savings have been realized from Tiang Tang a steel factory in Mukono –1.8 MVA  and SCOUL sugar factory in Lugazi –1.77 MVA.
