The centre for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation participated in the cookstove regional tour organized by African Clean Energy (ACE) and Winrock International (Winrock). This study tour was sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and Winrock. The workshop that was held in Maseru, Lesotho from 28th – 30th March 2017 attracted various participants from the cookstove sector across the globe upon invitation.
The study tour aimed at equipping organizations to replicate successful manufacturing, distribution and marketing approaches to bring their current programs to scale. This was achieved by showcasing examples of high quality cookstove manufacturing and distribution processes. Derrick Kiwana a bioenergy technician at CREEC participated in the study tour and was by the end of the tour able to;
- identify and employ uniform and cost saving manufacturing processes and equipment to produce quality stoves
- to expand the scale of cookstove program to produce clean and efficient stoves that meet the needs of the customer
- to use test procedures and results to inform and improve stove design
- to implement new marketing, promotion and after sales services
The CREEC Regional Testing and Knowledge Centre is directly involved with stove manufactures and offers services ranging from training, consultancy and testing. These services have helped in the improvement and performance of cookstoves. This study tour has helped the centre to stay up to date with information that will continuously be shared with the cookstove community.
