The Centre for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC) is a not-for-profit organisation for applied research, training and consultancy, located at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) within Makerere University Kampala, Uganda.
CREEC is working in the thematic areas of Rural Electrification, Energy for Productive use, Household energy, Energy Efficiency, Energy Entrepreneurship and Testing Services for cook stoves and solar PV. The centre aims at enhancing access to modern types of energy within Uganda and the entire East African region. The centre is looking for interns to join the different departments. Some of the available positions include;
Job Title: Solar PV Technician
Section : Solar PV Laboratory
Department: Laboratory Testing Services
Reports to: Head of Solar PV Laboratory
Job purpose: The position holder will assist the Head of Solar PV laboratory in the day to day activities including planning and execution of activity plans, and coordinating of the projects with the highest level of safety, quality and efficiency.
Duties/Responsibilities
-Testing of solar Pico-PV lanterns and solar PV components
– Laboratory equipment installation and maintenance
– Writing test reports for the solar PV laboratory
– Conduct training in solar PV testing and solar PV installation
– Conducting applied research using solar PV technologies
– Organizing the Solar PV laboratory
Attending relevant trainings, conferences and seminars related to solar PV
Experience and Education Requirements
– Minimum of a diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, civil engineering or an equivalent with a working experience in solar PV technology
– Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs
Job title: Bioenergy Technician
Section: Regional Testing and Knowledge Centre (RTKC) Laboratory
Department: Laboratory Testing Services
Reports to: Head of RTKC Laboratory
Job Purpose: The position holder will assist the Head of laboratory in the day to day activities including planning and execution of activity plans and coordinating of the testing services in the RTKC laboratory
Duties/Responsibilities
-Testing of cookstoves
-Stove Data collection, entry and analysis
-Report writing
-Ensure calibration of laboratory equipment
-Training in stove programs i.e. production, energy efficiency/use and maintenance
-Demonstrating new technologies in bioenergy
-Conducting research on briquetting and briquettes
-Gasification and charcoal projects
-Any other activity assigned by the supervisor
Experience and Education Requirements
-Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical), or Agriculture, Forestry, Environmental science with working experience in Bioenergy technologies
-Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft office suite applications and statistic packages.
Job Title: Public Relations Assistant
Section: Communication
Department: Administration
Reports: Public Relations officer
Job Purpose: The position holder will assist the public relations officer in the day to day activities including planning and execution of PR activity plans and coordinating of the communication strategies and activities
Duties/Responsibilities
– Drafting newsletters
– Report writing
– Organising and supervising events
– Social media management
– Identify main clients and determine the best way to communicate with them
– Make communications on behalf of CREEC
Any other activity assigned by the supervisor
Experience and Education Requirements
– Should be pursuing a bachelor’s Degree in journalism or any equivalent communication course
– Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft office suite applications and graphics packages
