DR RANYEE CHIANG VISITS CREEC-REGIONAL TESTING AND KNOWLEDGE CENTRE

On 22nd April 2017, Dr Ranyee Chiang the Director of Standards, Technology and Fuels from the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves (GACC) visited the CREEC Regional Testing and Knowledge Centre in Makerere University to check on progress of the centre and discuss the business sustainability for the centre. The CREEC-RTKC which offers stove and fuel testing services to stove manufacturers is also affiliated to the GACC. CREEC has recently revamped the cookstove testing facility which is divided into two sections; one section is dedicated to testing stove performance in terms of stove use, efficiency, emissions, durability, stove design and assessment. The other section is designed purposely for gravimetric filter preparations.

The new laboratory with state of the art equipment was set up with support from GACC through the United Nations Fund(UNF) and has upgraded equipment like the LEMS which was procured from the Aprovecho Research Centre in Oregon, USA. Dr Ranyee Chiang had the opportunity to have a tour around the facility and was updated on all the improvements that have been made in recent times and the current tests that CREEC is now able to do as a result of the continuous improvements and trainings that have been done by the RTKC. With the new facility, CREEC is now in a better position to carry out a wide range of stove and fuel tests based on the needs of the clients.
