CREEC participates in 2012 Energy Week

CREEC participated in this year’s annual Energy Week exhibition from the 25th to 29th September, 2012 with the theme “energy for sustainable development” at the National Theatre parking yard.

This year’s Week started with the launch of a new energy brand and the Energy Week exhibition at Amber House where the Minister of Energy, Hon Irene Muloni called upon Ugandans to adopt energy saving practices. The minister encouraged Ugandans to participate in the exhibition where they will learn more about energy saving technologies and also get to buy them.

The Centre was represented by the bioenergy, solar PV and pico-hydro departments where each exhibited some of its research equipment, services like solar PV tests and institutional biogas technology through promotional materials like flyers and posters.

The MWOTO stove was also exhibited both at the centre’s tent and an independent tent owned by MWOTO Factories. Participants in this year’s exhibition were treated to a cup of coffee through the cooking demonstrations done at the exhibition. The Week was also marked by public dialogues held to discuss different topics on sustainable energy solutions like energy management and biogas.

Participants in this year’s Energy Week included the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, GIZ’s Energy Explorerz, Barefoot Power Ltd, UMEME, Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA), WWF, All in Trade Company Ltd, Media oil Uganda, Centenary Bank Uganda Ltd among many others.

About Energy Week

The Energy Week was invented in 2005 as a week where key players in the energy sector come together through an exhibition to share ways of conserving energy through promotion and sensitization of people.  This annual week was formally called “Energy Efficiency Week” until this year. Last years’ was celebrated in Mbale district under the theme “save for me, saving for my country”.

This year however, the week was rebranded and renamed as Energy Week aimed at making the public understand the role of energy saving in their lives.
