CREEC AT THE OFFICIAL INAUGURATION OF THE CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR THE EAST AFRICAN CENTRE FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY (EACREE)

On 11th June 2016, CREEC in collaboration with the College of Engineering Design Art and Technology participated in the exhibition commemorating the inauguration of the East African Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (EACREE). The  centres’ main objective will be to contribute towards increased access to modern, affordable and reliable energy services, energy security and mitigation of negative externalities of energy systems (such as pollution) by creating an enabling environment for renewable energy and energy efficiency markets and investments.

CREEC has played a key role in promoting sustainable renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, promote small-scale and medium-scale hydro power projects, and Bio-fuel projects, solar PV and cookstove testing services and gasification projects that and this was vivid during the exhibition.

The Hon. Irene Muloni impressed by CREEC’s innovations during the exhibition.

CREEC displayed state of the art testing equipment for both cookstoves and Solar PV products, cooking fuels like pellets and improved cookstove samples, innovations like solar dryers and solar cookers, energy audit equipment and a small hydro power test rig. This was not only to show case what CREEC does but it was also aimed at raising awareness about the different renewable technologies and services that can lead Uganda to a sustainable future. The exhibition also facilitated a dialogue and exchange of ideas between the CREEC team and stakeholders in the private sector.

EACREEE will support and execute Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency activities and projects which cover one or more EAC Partner States. The Centre will focus on activities and projects with regional impact or national projects which demonstrate high potential for scaling-up or regional replication.

The EACREEE was established by the partner member states of the East African Community (EAC) with support from the Austrian Development Agency and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) with an aim of making sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) a reality in 2030. The center is based at Makerere University’s College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) and operates through a network of National Focal Institutions among all East African States.
