CREEC AT CAAST-NET PLUS WORKSHOP IN RWANDA.

CREEC ATTENDS CAAST-Net Plus workshop in Rwanda.

The workshop was hosted by the East African nation’s education ministry at the Hotel Villa Portofino from 21-22 July 2016 in Rwanda which gave participants a practical training on how to write strong and winning proposals with guidance from leading experts. Low-carbon and climate-resilient energy technologies in Uganda and Africa as a whole are of great importance in ensuring a green economy resilient to the challenges of climate change. The workshop brought young researchers, regional and international professionals together to network and help frame research proposals that are of significant relevance to address the development challenges of the region.

Eileen Lara, a master’s student and a project engineer at  Centre for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC), described several benefits from having attended the workshop one of which was the opportunity to meet several senior researchers in the energy sector.

“Because of the workshop structure we had the opportunity to share our proposals and getting feedback on how we can improve them, making new contacts and discussing overlaps, sharing information on common interests while having the  opportunity to make new collaboration” she mentions. The workshop will help to give shape to and secure funding for research projects in the future.

As part of the workshop, a field excursion to East Africa’s largest grid-connected photovoltaic plant at the Agahozo Shalom Youth Village took place on 23 July which provided participants with a first hand example of Africa’s transition to sustainable energy.
